Christ Hospital joins effort to rebuild Taft Elementary

The Christ Hospital has joined parents, residents, businesses and institutions in Mount Auburn in an effort to keep Taft Elementary School on the Board of Education's list of schools to be rebuilt.
The student population at Taft Elementary has declined over the last 30 years mainly because of a loss of housing for young families, as well as students living in Mount Auburn choosing other public schools, according to Christ's parent group, the Health Alliance.
Christ Hospital, the Mount Auburn Community Council and the Mount Auburn Group for Improving the Community (MAGIC), the local business association, are working with other groups to develop strategies to increase the number of students at Taft, according to a Health Alliance press release.
Efforts will focus on expanding the school's programming and supporting growth in housing and businesses in Mt. Auburn.
Among the strategies being discussed are expanding the attendance zone of Taft Elementary to include Mt. Auburn, Corryville and CUF (Clifton, University and Fairview Heights); and making Taft a neighborhood/alternative school.
"Restructuring of Taft Elementary is critical to the continued revitalization of housing in Mount Auburn and the southern sector of Uptown Cincinnati," said Greg Hopkins, vice president of professional services at Christ. "The residents and parents welcome the support and assistance of business and institutional partners."
