Hamilton (New Zealand), Feb.19 : New Zealand beat Bangladesh by 121 runs in the one-off cricket Test here on Friday.

According to the NZPA, the tourists were dismissed for 282 in their second innings after lunch on the fifth and final day at Seddon Park, despite an outstanding maiden Test century by their captain Shakib Al Hasan.

The pugnacious left-hander scored a highly entertaining and resourceful 100 after resuming this morning on nought with his side hopelessly placed at 5-88 in search of the 404 needed for victory.

Al Hasan had gone to lunch on 98, scored off 99 balls, on Friday and immediately raised his century after the break by turning Tim Southee to square leg for two before slogging wildly two balls later to be bowled.

New Zealand had set themselves up for victory when centuries to Martin Guptill and Brendon McCullum saw them score 7(dec)-553 in the first innings.

Bangladesh responded with 408 before the hosts scored 5(dec)-258 batting a second time to leave the tourists a challenging run chase which proved beyond them.

It was Bangladesh's 55th defeat in 64 Tests.
